Breast Pump Donation Program

How new moms can make a difference
Did you know returning your breast pump can help others in need? Limerick proudly partners with the Cherry Blossom Family Program and the University of California Health Milk Bank to provide donated breast pumps and new accessories to bereaved milk donors during perinatal loss. By donating your breast pump, you have an opportunity to help a bereaved mother heal through her milk donation journey—and help ensure access to donor milk for fragile babies in need.

Giving back with Cherry Blossom
For bereaved mothers who are grieving the loss of their baby, milk donation can be a time for healing. Represented by the cherry blossom flower (which symbolizes fragility and the beauty of life), the Cherry Blossom program works with the University of California Health Milk Bank to provide bereaved mothers with a double electric breast pump or hand pump and accessories, collection bags, memory stone, and a bereavement flyer. There is no obligation to donate, but those who choose to pump can connect with their baby, attach purpose and meaning to their unimaginable loss, and help save the life of a vulnerable NICU baby.

Why is milk donation important?
While the state of California has high rates of breastfeeding, there is still a donor milk shortage for sick or premature infants in the NICU. Approximately 80% of NICU babies require some supplementation besides the mom’s own milk. Hospitals rely on milk banks to fill in the gap, as not all new mothers can provide the full amount of breast milk their infant in the NICU might need. The Cherry Blossom program not only offers bereaved mothers an opportunity to donate their milk to babies in need, but also provides education, supplies, and support for grieving families during this difficult time.
